FW: Cancer Center research slam - June 8

The Cancer Center recently held a "research slam" where three laboratory-based post-doctoral fellows presented their research and then participated in Q&A breakout sessions.  The talks in this format are very short (~5 min), leaving a substantial amount of time for discussion.  It was a great opportunity for the fellows to share their work.  The session was held virtually and attended by 30-40 Cancer Center members.

 

Our next research slam is scheduled for Wednesday, June 8 from 3:00-4:00pm.  Cancer Center leadership would like to have this session focused on clinical fellows or residents who have cancer-related research projects that they'd like to present.  We can accommodate 3-5 fellows/residents.

 

Please share this information with your faculty and trainees.  If you have a recommendation for a fellow/resident to present, please forward their name and contact information to me so we can make arrangements for the June research slam.

 

This is a fun, low stress forum so I hope you can provide some nominations for participation.

Savard gets grants for Autism

Liliane Savard, DPT, Doctoral Candidate in CTS, just received two awards from PCORI (the Patient Centered Outcomes Research Institute) with the UVM Autism Collaborative.

The first is a 1-year (98K) Virtual convenings on the topic of healthcare transition from pediatric to adult services:  this will be a zoom “conference" on multiple days where groups of stakeholders will meet and discuss their healthcare experiences and expectations along with available research and identify gaps and needs for research. (February and March 2023)

The second is a 2-year (250K) Build Capacity for autism research: Learn from autistics how they want to engage with researchers and develop collaboration tools including a training and certificate of training for non-autistics and an onboarding training for autistics who want to be research partners.

A wonderful achievement!

 

 

Gail Rose presents at Society for Behavioral Medicine

Gail L. Rose, PhD, Assistant Professor of Psychiatry, with her poster on revisions to the Practice Integration Profile at the Society for Behavioral Medicine Annual Meeting in Baltimore, Maryland. UVM collaborators on this work include Juvena Hitt, Benjamin Littenberg, and Constance van Eeghen. Other collaborators include Tara Weldon, Mindy McEntee, Rodger Kessler, CR Macchi, Daniel Mullin.

 

She also presented a poster on Delay in seeking behavioral health care after the onset of COVID-19 is negatively associated with physical and mental health among patients with multiple chronic conditions with co-author Benjamin Littenberg. This one was given a meritorious Citation Award for overall outstanding submission! Congratulations, Gail!

FW: NHATS User Workshop

The National Health and Aging Trends Study (NHATS) is now accepting applications for a virtual user workshop to be held June 27-June 29, 2022. The workshop is designed for researchers at any stage interested in a hands-on learning experience to develop a paper or project using NHATS. The course will incorporate the NHATS online course for beginners along with real-time guidance from NHATS faculty and staff. Activities will include modules on the Canvas website, real-time lectures, and breakout sessions. The workshop is free, but space is limited. Applications are due May 15^th and participants will be notified by June 1^st - apply here.
