Present: Levi Bonnell, Justine Dee, Nancy Gell, Juvena Hitt, Emily Houston, Ben Littenberg, Liliane Savard, Adam Sprouse Blum, Connie van Eeghen, Mariana Wingood (10)
1. Warm Up: Sweden’s hegemony of the high seas ended due to the classic QI root cause: miscommunication among team members. Lesson learned: watch your Ps and Qs.
2. Justine: Please review introduction and methods. I have attached the appendices. The consort diagram and table are not complete as the data collection is still in process. I am looking for feedback on clarity, and where I can cut down. The journal has a 4000 word limit and I am currently at 2395 words
i. Think about each word and the value it provides to the meaning you want your readers to retain
ii. It’s better to make the same point three times than crafting an intricate interplay of many related issues
iii. Is the focus the less than perfect measures or the patient outcomes?
iv. Impact of the first paragraph: grab the reader with the problem
v. Find the central purpose of the paper and organize around that consistently; don’t let the secondary analysis take over – even though it could be ground breaking later
vi. Afterwards, go back to the title and reconsider
vii. What is the impact of telehealth on the design?
viii. For consideration in the discussion (not the methods), reflect on the impact on primary care in treating chronic pain
ix. Consider Equator Network for reporting guidelines (therapeutic exercise intervention); check also for psychosocial interventions
x. Please send Justine all comments.
xi. This is a FINER study – keep going!
3. Next week: Nancy Gell et al: paper on physical activity
a. Tomorrow: Ben’s seminar on the field of clinical and translation through a presentation on The History of Insulin: A case of clinical and translational science
