Robert King Merton on faith and skepticism in science

One of my favorite Internet features is Anu Garg's A.Word.A.Day email service which delivers seven lovely little articles every week featuring an English word, its definition and origin, as well as a bonus quotation of whatever strikes Mr. Garg's fancy. Today's quote was perfect for the "Authority" section of this blog's home page and has been duly ensconced.
"Most institutions demand unqualified faith; but the institution of science makes skepticism a virtue." -Robert King Merton, sociologist (4 Jul 1910-2003)
Thank you, Anu!
