  1. I realize the end of cycle money has been spent already, but one book suggested by Connie that might be worth having on the shelf in the future is:

The Complete Lean Enterprise: Value Stream Mapping for Administrative and Office Processes, by Keyte & Locher (ISBN:1563273012 for the paperback).

I recommend this because it seems like many of the clinical processes are admixtures of both production processes (stepwise mechanics of care and related logistics) and service processes typical of business "operations" - the value stream entails both product, process and service. Much of the latter is tacit and tied up in the learned experience, knowledge and education of the professionals involved. The book is oriented toward helping illustrate and learn mapping of how value is added through processes that are less "production" and more intangible or service-oriented, and so it should be helpful w/clinical value-stream mapping.
