Dear Colleagues,
Effective immediately, all NIH applications that generate research data (Research Projects, Individual Career Development Awards (Ks), Small Business SBIR/STTR, and Research Centers) require a Data Management and Sharing Plan (DMSP); this includes new proposals or active NIH awards going up for renewal with receipt date of January 25, 2023.
UVM Research Development, Libraries, and Sponsored Projects Administration have partnered to provide you with resources and tools to help you prepare the 2-page DMSP document:
- UVM's Guide to the 2023 NIH Data Management and Sharing (DMS) Policy: An organized collection of supporting resources about the new policy, effective January 25, 2023.
- Application Instructions: These guidelines describe all the elements that you must consider when developing and uploading your data management and sharing plan.
- UVM's DMSP Template Document: Research Development has prepared this template with all instructions from the Forms-H SF424 guide; the template includes an outline and prompts to help PIs complete the DMSP form. Also find a growing repository of sample DMS plans from the NIH.
- Budgeting: Information on how to budget for data management, storage, and sharing costs.
- NIH instructions for requesting and justifying costs for data management and sharing.
- Forms H Template for Budget Justification with instructions and prompts for each line item, including costs associated with data management, storage, and sharing.
- NIH instructions for requesting and justifying costs for data management and sharing.
- UVM Webinar Recording: Covers the basics of the NIH's new policy.
- DMPTool: UVM partners with DMPTool, a free service that helps researchers and institutions to create, review, and share high-quality data management plans that meet institutional and funder requirements. Log in with your @uvm.edu email address.
- Other helpful links and resources include: FAIR Principles; DMS considerations when working with Human Subject Data; Selecting a Repository
We hope you will find these resources helpful in writing your DMS plans. If you have questions or need assistance, please see the Campus Support page.
Thank you,
Jeralyn
